Branding In Hip-Hop

*Warning : Explicit Content...Obviously though, right?

I have created this blog as a way to show the relationship between branding and hip-hop. Branding is more than just a name and logo. A brand has a culture and a background. They symbolize an idea. Rappers, using heavy metaphors, use brands as a way to creatively express their ideas and overall messages.

I've been obsessed with hip-hop since I was 6. Figured I would create something related to it while utilizing my media/advertising background. So enjoy the product placement!

K’Naan - Is Anybody Out There

His name was Adam, When his mom had him/ Dad was a phantom never took a look at him/ Grew up mad and antisocial/ Hated outdoors, always in, playing Madden/ Adam was lonely

It always sucks to hear about kids that don’t have the best childhoods.  It sucks even more when the father isn’t there.  The dad is a critical component is a person’s beginning.  Whatever caused Adam’s dad to be a phantom and not be visible in his world doesn’t matter.  There is no excuse for that.  Because of this, Adam doesn’t have as much guidance as one would need.  Growing up anti-social, he probably chooses to avoid social scenes and prefers to stay in his room instead.  His form of entertainment then comes from video games, specifically Madden.  Madden, released every year, can rid of thoughts of abandonment and instead provide an imaginary vision of being a foot ball player with thousands of fans screaming for you.

It may not be a great substitute for social settings and going outdoors, but sometimes video games provide a great sense of happiness, entertainment and escape.
